Does the MacBook have to come directly from Apple? Other retailers, such as John Lewis or Tesco perhaps, would probably accept part card, part cash?0

I would have thought that unless you want the insurance aspect of a credit card purchase I would have thought that paying with a debit card was perfectly safe with Apple. Not likely to go bust with $150 billion in cash in their accounts. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

The OP wants it from the Apple Refurb Store which is online only. Currys do refurbed Apple's too but they're not available to collect instore (and may not be official Apple refurbs).
Daz_f could ring Tesco and ask if they'll agree a temporary increase of £200 on the credit limit. He then pays that £200 off right after buying the MacBook then the credit limit reverts back.
Just a thought.0 -

Well just spoke to a senior manager at Tesco Bank. They can't increase your limit for 12 months which is normal and I can't make a willing overpayment but he did say accounts go in credit due to refunds etc. so if I actually bought something and paid it off then returned it i would be in credit and a purchase would go through over the limit up to he balance that's on the card0 -
Only one way to find out I guess!0

The only issue with that is if the retailer refuses a refund, which they are entitled to do unless the item is faulty.
They could turn around and insist on a replacement.0
