Yep. No need to carry these. The hi-viz vest bit is apparently the money maker if you upset le plod though.

Yep, they even fine you for keeping them in the boot.
The breath tester seems to be an odd one, I believe you are required to have one, but they can't do anything about it if you don't.

I must say that my complete lack of a GB sticker on any vehicle has never raised an eyebrow with any police on any of my trips abroad over many years to quite a few countries. The only thing I've ever been asked to show was my spare bulb kit (on a motorbike).

I always display a Scotland (SCO) one! :D

First aid kit is a must in Belguim IIRC.

I took 4 hi vis vests, and a first aid kit, plus fire extinguisher, 2 tubes of tyre sealant (I have a skinny spare too) and a full tool box (it's in my boot, strapped in all the time), and 1 spare head lamp bulb (They blow every 3 months or so on my honda and I have no idea why, but I always have a spare)
Didn't bother with beam benders, as wasn't planning on driving at night.

GB stickers on the numberplates, but £2 on the ferry.

Not required but common sense, as it's illegal to drive with a bulb out in France and Belgium. If you are caught, it's an on the spot fine and they wont allow you to use the vehicle until the bulb is replaced.

So a £4 spare bulb kit or a very long walk in the dark.

On some cars you'd be hard pushed to replace one in daylight without some serious commitment. (Usually French :rotfl:)

I know one of the Meganes is dreadful for it. But I've had a 307, Xsara and my partner currently has a C3 and they are all easy to change the bulbs, compared to my current Astra (through the wheel arch !!!!!!?) and her previous KA (AKA Knuckle Splicer).

Out of curiousity, is there any stipulation over the quality of a GB (or other) sticker? Could you just print off a picture of one and tape it to the back of your car?

We're going to mostly Belgium tomorrow for five days. Have ordered a GB sticker on Amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet in the post. I know it's compulsory to put them on, but how strict are the police if you 'forget' to attach one when travelling in Europe?
    What your experience?
    Thanks. :)

Have you painted your headlights yellow and had them adapted to dip the other side yet?

It might just be easier to fly and hire a car on arrival ;)

But then the neighbours won't be able to tell you've been abroad on your hols.
... unless you make a racket on return (them suitcases with wheels are perfect for this) and ensure the airport luggage labels still adorn your suitcases :D

It doesn't have to be a sticker. It can be a badge if you prefer and, as far as I know, it can be any size too. I had a chrome G B letters on the rump of my car (since removed.)

    Found a pic...

You could do, as long as it complies with Annex 3, page 46.
