We're going to mostly Belgium tomorrow for five days. Have ordered a GB sticker on Amazon, but it hasn't arrived yet in the post. I know it's compulsory to put them on, but how strict are the police if you 'forget' to attach one when travelling in Europe?
What your experience?
Thanks.

Petrol stations usually sell them. Also have you tried Wilkinsons? Not something I would have bothered using Amazon for unless it was uber cheap and I had plenty of time.
Also if you have the blue GB euro flag on your number plates then you don't need a GB sticker.0 -
My Dad has just come back from Belgium, had to drive in France briefly as he got the Dunkirk ferry.
If you are driving this way don't forget all the other goodies you have to keep in the car, fire extinguisher, headlight deflectors, first aid kit, hi-vis jackets.
You can pick up a GB sticker on the way at any service station or even on the ferry. For a couple of quid is it even worth risking a fine or a telling off.0 -
Spare bulbs too.0

If you have a GB thing on your numberplate, you don't need the sticker.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

When I drove to Belgium 2 years ago I was OCD and got ALL the required stuff including the headlight correctors which stop the headlight beam going onto the other side. the bulb kit, the triangle, hi vis vest etc etc.
To my surprise when I was chatting to people on the ferry a lot of people had no idea they were a requirement and hadn't bothered. Also noticed quite a few British cars over there with no GB plates.
I wouldn't worry too much but as someone else has said i'd just pop to wilko. I'm pretty sure i've seen them in tesco/asda at times as well.0 -

I thought this had been delayed and is potentially going to be scrapped?
To the OP - you can buy GB stickers from hundreds of places. continental police have a reputation of being much stricter than the British about enforcing these types of things and so for the sake of a few quid it isnt worth the risk in my opinion.
I've only once been pulled over whilst overseas and that resulted in a long discussion about my headlights made a lot worse by their lack of english and my lack of french. They were trying to fine me for not having deflectors on the lights but I was trying to explain to them that I didnt need them as I could adjust the lights for left or right hand driving via the cars option menu (and I had done it)0 -

Yep. No need to carry these. The hi-viz vest bit is apparently the money maker if you upset le plod though. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Not required to be carried in France or Belgium.
Not required but common sense, as it's illegal to drive with a bulb out in France and Belgium. If you are caught, it's an on the spot fine and they wont allow you to use the vehicle until the bulb is replaced.
So a £4 spare bulb kit or a very long walk in the dark.0
