I had the usual fun and games with them changing the direct debit every month to start with. A few angry phone calls and it stayed the same.
They've now changed it twice in last two months and intend to do so again next month. Another phone call due.
All because we had snow in may and my gas usage that period was a bit higher than the previous year. duh!
Ironically, they have included a break down of costs for the coming year and included last years. They anticipate I will spend less, but want to increase my dd.
    sigh

It's not usual for EDF to change the DD amount every month (unless you ask them to). I found it is reviewed at 6 monthly intervals :)

I'm with EDF on a DD, and also get the yearly statement thing.

Everytime they want to put the DD up to ridiculous levels even if I'm in credit, or not that much debt after winter.

I give them readings every few months and the online system updates straight away to show how much credit/debit I'm in. I then get a confirmation in the post.

EDF have now changed the wording on their bills to tell their customers that if they owe EDF money then they are £X in debt
  • The extended billing cycle is a new strategy. How to get fewer customers to interact with you, reduce customer service calls and internal admin? Extend the billing cycle.

I switched into EDF where iirc the billing cycle was still monthly or quarterly. Trough Nectar points, they encouraged regular meter reading, so accurate bills.

Now it seems, as has happened with us, Mr and Mrs Mason senior (switching in last year) plus the OP, that cycle is now annual, so you're left alone to your own devices.

Goodness knows what it does to their cash flow though.

The sooner we all get smart meters, the better.
