EDF is this normal

Had a bit of a panic earlier as I hadn't had any Emails or bills from EDF since December last year. I checked my account on line and it says I'm £700 odd in credit but haven't sent any meter readings for ages so thought I had better ring them to check everything was OK and was told they don't ask for readings and only send bills out once a year. How am I/are they supposed to know everything is on track if they don't check things more often than once a year.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I don't think they really care one bit tbh. If anything is out of whack, they'll send a catch-up bill.

You, on the other hand, should be concerned about that possible outcome. If you don't want a nasty catch-up bill, you should submit readings as often as you can. It is the only way to protect yourself. :)

I give EDF a regular reading and they generate a bill each month online. No good blaming EDF because you could not be bothered to give them regular meter readings. Sometimes in life we all have to be proactive.
  • The annoying thing is I read my meter every month just never thought to send them to EDF as my last company always asked for them! I would have thought at least a quarterly bill would be sent out. I just sent them my readings so hopefully everything will be OK.

You will find that your meter readings submission triggers a new bill....and also probably a recalculation of your DD - Be ready to challenge it if you think its set too high (or low!) because EDF's computer has a mind of its own and seems to work according to a whole new set of mathematical laws!:rotfl:

    Different experience than the OP.
I receive a quarterly e mail from EDF asking for the meter readings and subsequently receive the bill in the post. They also send a meter reader to the house every 6 months.

Do you pay monthly by DD?

I suspect the OP does as their account is now in credit.

You can submit meter readings as often as you like (well up to once a day) online. A new bill be then be produced if it's been at least 28 days since the last one was generated.

EDF suggest to those with EDF Blue+ and pay monthly by DD to provide meter readings once every couple of months, but I do so monthly to keep a closer eye on things.

You should have had a DD review after 6 months (but maybe not if they didn't have any actual meter readings to base things on)

They emailed me to ask for a meter reading after 12 months (even though they get provided one monthly). Sounds like they are going to review my monthly DD again ... and if I don't agree, hopefully they will revert it back again on request like they did at 6 months.

Not had a meter reader yet since I've been with EDF and as they have emailed me to supply a reading, I guess one isn't coming anytime soon. (although the general email does say someone may be due to call).

I send my gas and electric meter reading online at the end of each month, I started off paying £64 a month DD, then it was increased to £83 a month, and after an annual review from next month it will be £54 a month. I will continue to send the meter readings monthly to avoid any nasty shocks.

I read my meters about once a month and enter my readings on line - but if I forget I don't get a reminder. That way I know I won't get any nasty surprises.

I had the usual fun and games with them changing the direct debit every month to start with. A few angry phone calls and it stayed the same.
They've now changed it twice in last two months and intend to do so again next month. Another phone call due.
All because we had snow in may and my gas usage that period was a bit higher than the previous year. duh!
Ironically, they have included a break down of costs for the coming year and included last years. They anticipate I will spend less, but want to increase my dd.
    sigh

I submit a meter reading about every month as I manage the account online and I suspected the DD amount was high as the estimated was from first few months in new house in middle of winter... I receive an emailed bill every month and got one yesterday saying they are reducing the DD :j
