The smax shown in my first post has 3 proper middle row seats that all move and fold down independently.

with the 3rd row of seats up there is still quite a bit of boot space and also a massive compartment under the boot floor.

So a baby seat an adult and child/booster seat across the middle?

That's tight at best and not something to be done on a regular basis

In fact a large child seat reduces row two to two seats so if you fold the middle seat down you still have no boot.

Despite your images from Vauxhall note the lack of car seats.

There are 7 seats. The OP only needs 6.

The best option is to fold one of the back row down.
  • The trouble with the small seven seaters is seats 6 and 7 are just for children.

Does anyone think sitting them in the crumple zone is an every day solution?

However in the specific situation in this family, its quite likely that 2 of the family will be there temporarily after which point the family will revert to 4 + maybe one fostered. I'd agree that if they were going to be 6 long term then a small 7 seater is a cramped option, but if their "sixness" is likely to be short lived then driving a big 7 seater around for ages as a 5 isn't ideal either.

In reality the OP will be best off looking at the cars, seeing how the mechanisms and layouts work and deciding based on what they expect their somewhat unique circumstances will be over the lifespan of the car.

We have a zafria and there is 5 of us. My 8 year old can go on a booster inbetween the younger 2 on high back boosters but its a squeeze. If we don't need full boot then eldest goes in back with pushchair next to him.

This in reality the OP needs to make their own mind up and decide what suits them.

Not sure why there needs to be in-fights about what car the OP should buy? Surely they can make their own mind up without having their thread spoiled by sniping?

They seem to do it on every thread, it's getting really boring, they both need to grow up.

To the OP, we have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, don't use it much as a 7 seater but when we have we never had a problem with people being cramped in the back.

We were looking a Zafira and Touran as well but the C4 came out best, for our needs.

I suggest you have a good look at them, maybe take some car seats with you and try them out. Have a good mess with the seating and see which has configurations that suit your need.

I can confirm, having been given a new VW Sharan (which I didn't even know they still made) as a rental car just a few months ago that they are an underpowered bus.

However, the sliding doors were good and it would do 40mpg on the motorway.

    Wouldn't buy one though.

I have travelled from Liverpool to London cramped in the boot seat in a zafira.....not a great journey, far too cramped, even my son felt uncomfortable using the back seats from the age of about 9.

I would definitely look for a car with 3 independent seats in the middle row, 3 carseats/2 carseats and an adult is not a comfortable setup in a zafira for regular use!

The problem is the extra seats in most 7 sweaters are made for occasional use.

I have been in my friends multipla, very roomy and comfortable but personally I don't like how wide they are :rotfl:

I would definitely get to a dealer and have a go at putting the seats up and down, sit in the back seats, test out space with carseats. As I said before I would highly recommend the Renault grand scenic, so nice to drive and comfy inside. The ford s max was the other option we considered but it came down to price.

    Good luck!

Isn't it the Sharan and the Galaxy that are basically the same car?
