Poor quality product - installation compensation?

I bought a sink with a wooden shelf. The wood is starting to chip a week after installation! What are my rights? Obviously I will be entitled to a refund. But what about the cost of installation. It will cost me £200 to get a new sink installed. Does anyone know about consequential loss?

Can explain what you mean by 'chip' please?

Nothing obvious about getting a refund, they will want to know why it's chipping, normally for something to chip, something has to hit it. A bit more detail please.

    as above, more detail needed

But, speaking generally, consequential costs are covered under SoG

Sorry for the very belated reply! I thought I had email alerts set up, but I didn't.

So...yes, by 'chip', I mean it just looks rough or unfinished. Discoloured. Run your hand over it and you can feel the contours of the wood.

I called the seller, and he told me to coat it with another few coats of Danish Oil, which really helped. Until a couple of months later and now the same thing has happened again.

Looks like more coats of Danish Oil are needed.

If you have wood in daily contact with water I would keep the bottle of Danish Oil under the sink, it will need frequent attention, which I would say is not unexpected.

My shed gets done annually with cuprinol for the same reasons

Yes, the oil sorts it out, but then a couple of weeks later...

I'll get you a pic soon. The £200 is my plumber's day rate.

But it won't take a day to fit a new one, so find somebody who will give you a job rate or has an hourly charge.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
