  • I posted a small job I wanted doing on ratedpeople.com. According to the email I received, 40 tradesmen looked at my advert, but only 1 wanted to quote. Turned out the tradesman was based 50 miles away so didn't bother with further contact. His traveling time/petrol would have ended up being built into the quote sending it way over budget.

    Waste of time.

what did you put for your budget ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

what did you put for your budget ?

I selected under £100. Seeing as I got 2 quotes from the local paper later for <£75 for the job, it was the correct budget.

I also posted a job a while ago and got someone from 200 miles away wanting to quote. When plenty of local trades where suitable for the job. Think that was MyHammer.
  • I'm not saying it was the wrong amount to put, however what some people don't realise is that the trade has to pay to get your details, the amount you have to pay depends on the budget amount, area you live, type of work you want done

your job may have cost the trade £7 to get your details for a £75 job with no guarentee of you accepting the quote & getting them to do the job

I'm not saying you didn't want a genuine quote however some people post up a job just to find out the quote cost without ever intending to get it done, so trades have to weigh up the likelyhood of getting the job & the money they will make

Yes I know they have to pay to quote. The tradesman got a fee refund as I clicked to say that I was unable to get quote.

I would say the job you described is a 2 day job and at least £200, no wonder you got bodgers if you expected it to be done for £75

Oops, my bad thought the ops job was £75, apologies

I'm sure the OPs job was more than £75. If you are referring to me, then £75 was right for a job that took an hour or so.

you misunderstood, what i'm saying is there isn't enough money in the job to make a trade maybe waste £7 on a job under £100 if you weren't gonna get them to do it, thats why no one wanted to quote you (local or otherwise), you already had two quotes @ £75 so if they came in anywhere above that they prob wouldn't have got the job

just as a matter of interest what was the job ?
