Credit Check

I tried to buy a phone in phoneboxdirect (vodaphone). I was declined in Feb bcos of my overdraft I think. Now I am not in over-draft but have a £500 saving. In this case why Iam rejected again???. Should I have any min amount in my bank. If so how much????.

Credit checks are based on several factors which I believe DO NOT include how much you have in your bank account.

    Some of the factors are:

    Time living at current address.
    Age
    Occupation
    Time with employer
How many credit cards you have
    Payment of bills/utilities
    Electorial register
    Loans/Mortgages/Debts

The best thing to do is to get a copy of your credit file from the UK credit checking agencies such as:

    https://www.experian.co.uk

    https://www.equifax.co.uk

    https://www.callcredit.co.uk

Also, please read the following sections of the site/forum:

    Hope that helps.

if you try buying from a high street store like phones4u, and your using your bank statement as a proof then that would have to be postive otherwise it is a useless proof ....

Ermm if you got rejected online its best to try on the highstreet ....o2 accept anyone LOL

Have you ever had anything credit type wise before to get a score.

I tried getting a contract when n95 first came out with BuyMobilePhones.net who rejected me because i never had a credit rating.
I thought I wouldnt be able to get one but decided to try o2 online to get one and did get a contract. Bearing in mind, im a student, not got a job, not got a overdraft, never had credit but have lived in same house for past 17 years and had only just had student loan through so was sitting in bank.

Thing to do is try get one with the company itself id say, they usualy give anyone a contract.
  • Vodafone are the most difficult network to get connected to if your credit isnt great, try o2 or 3 they are normally easier to get onto than voda.

Well put it like this my credit record is shot to pieces and includes a bancrupcy within the last six years, discharged in 2005. I am in a contract with T Mobile, my 18th month and they were one of my creditors when I went bancrupt. So I would say T Mobile are quite laid back, Three declined me.

P.S I have no overdraft, and am debt free these days.

congrats on turning things around quietgirl! and thanx for the heads-up on t-mobile...

whilst i've never been with t-mo personally, where orange n vodafone have outright rejected me (prob cos i'm not on the electoral roll) three have accepted my custom with no questions asked (well, mostly)

thought i may be able to mix things up a lil bit n sign for t-mo this time round...looks like i might just be able to

in was in my last year off an IVA(completed 3 years ago) and still had a few bad debts showing on my credit report(not quite done 6 years for default to clear) and t-mobile was the only one to give me a contract for 18 months in january and the tariffes are not that bad too, i am a hgv driver and the signal seems to be fine to good in most places apart from the odd dead spot put thay all have that , in my option is seems better that orange (had contract in fathers name)
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
