Banks getting it wrong

Just been to Tahiland, a total disaster as my bank blocked my card even tho I went in and told them I was going and the dates. Ok that is it covered said the cashier, was it not, back early, didn't do much, does anyone know if I can get compensated for this. Surely someone has been in the same position, need some help, as I want to stop this happening to others. Any suggestions.

Have you suffered a loss?0 -
What did they say when you called them from Thailand to confirm it was you trying to use the card?0

Same thing happened to me the last time I was in Italy, informed bank of my trip etc..........
One phone call sorted it out though. And I can tell you I was fair annoyed at the time.0 -
Some banks seem to be worse at this than others, so perhaps if you tell us what bank it is we can tell you whether they are one of the bad ones. I have never had an issue with my Nationwide card, they have an online function to notify them where you are going. But a card can be blocked for perfectly good reasons, so the key thing is to make sure you have other means of paying, such as another card from a different issuer.0

This recent MSE New item may help you understand what went wrong.0 -
Just because you tell the bank you are going to X country does NOT STOP the fraudsters in that country.
If your bank are seeing lots of ATM fraud in that country. Then YOU WILL get a security check.
You should have been told this when you called to advise them of your travel plans.
Best you will get is the coast of the call. For which you may have to provide a copy of the statement.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Perhaps I'm a bit odd but I'm always comforted when my card is stopped when I'm abroad - it gives me confidence that my bank is actually looking and spotting what seem to them anomalies. A quick phone call is all it takes to sort things out.
I always take the bank's phone numbers with me just in case of fraud, loss, theft and card probs. I also take money in diff formats - debit card, credit card, cash (foreign and sterling) and travellers cheques - belt and braces maybe but who wants to get caught abroad with no money ?0 -
It is not the norm to take things like travelers cheques and pre-pay cards and things?0
-
Pre-pay cards are the way to do it, certainly in Europe.0
