Corsa speedo not working
Hi,
I posted on here a couple of weeks ago about my car cutting out on me and got some great responses. My car is a Vauxhall Corsa, 2000 reg, 1199cc, petrol engine.
But now I've got another issue, I was driving on Friday and suddenly the speedo stopped working, I also noticed that the steering felt noticeably lighter. After about 10 mins of driving with it at 0 the service light came on, it soon went off and after bouncing about for a moment the speedo started working again.
I started my car this morning (after being away for the weekend) and the speedo didn't start working until I'd driven for about 15 mins, again bouncing about then settling on my actual speed.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Is the accessory/ cig lighter working ? the spedometers on these are electric and even a dirt fuse can play them up, failing that the sensor in the side of the gearbox may need the wiring cleaning or the sensor may be faulty which the EML light would suggest.Be happy...;)0

This is a common problem on the Corsa. The clocks are also coded to the Immobliser, but suffer loose connections on the back.
If your fuses are ok, then A short term fix is to wack the top of the dome, or push the clock face in, failing that you can dismantle the lot and re-seat the connector properly.
There's a few panels which need to come off, but Its fairly easy, there is a tutrorial for removing the dash on the Corsa-C forum.0 -
Disassemble, clean contacts with switch cleaner, lightly sand them if possible, reconnect. See if that helps. It's actually dead easy pulling a dash board apart once you know what you're doing, and have a good guide online to follow.0

Agreed with above post its not a difficult jobs.0

Thanks will suggest this to my brother (who's better at these things) and see if it works!0

I had the same problem the other day. I parked at work and had to bump of a kerb to get out of the carpark and the speedo didn't work on the way home.
Still didn't work back to work the next morning, but after having to bump of a kerb again (with both front wheels at the same time) it started to work again.
And since then it's done that a few times, allways after bumping of a kerb.Compting since October 2012.

My brother took apart the dash board and cleaned things up. This seemed to have done the trick, however it has started to go off again.
Would you recommend me buying a new sensor for it now? If so how much will this cost and where can I get one?
Thanks!0 -
Did you pull and clean the fuse ?Be happy...;)0

My brother said that the fuse was fine, the cigarette lighter was working as well.
I'm just confused as it does come and go rather than just not work completely.0 -
I'm not sure how the Corsa measures speed, some cars use the ABS sensors, i'm wondering if your ABS is working? Because someone might have removed the warning lamp before selling the car to you, in which case it could well be an entirely different problem.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
