M&S back advertising on Facebook

So, after rightly deciding to suspend Facebook advertising on 28th June, M&S have now recommenced their ad campaign. Having swallowed the FB BS about ads not appearing alongside 'inappropriate content' (read child sexual abuse, violent and misogynistic content), their ads are now popping up all over the show. The problem is that Facebook neglected to tell them that individuals share this content on their personal profiles too, something which Facebook did not cover in their change of policy last month. See the attached links for examples of M&S ads appearing next to Facebook content of women being chloroformed, bound and gagged. Nothing graphic or illegal, but pretty disturbing stuff for a "social network" that claims to be suitable for people of 13 years upwards.
What company in its right mind advertises on this platform? Are M&S that desperate to sell their new lines that they are will to appear as a sponsor alongside such nonsense?!

op totally agree!! pity that money talks!0

If that stuff is appearing on your feed I would question what your friends are doing. Nothing like that has ever appeared on mine!
I don't see anything wrong with M&S advertising on there. The pics you have linked to are in the minority, and would be difficult to come across unless you were actively looking (or had weird friends).0 -
M&S aside, there are some properly weird people, with equally weird fantasies out there!
Jeez.0 -
jacques chirac, I think you are missing the point somewhat. It's not that I am looking for this stuff, its the fact that it is even allowed to exist on a platform aimed at kids of 13 years and upwards that is the major issue. And this is the tip of the iceberg, believe me.
Take a look at this persons profile and his list of liked pages and you will see exactly the kind of stuff that goes on on FB without them doing anything to stop it. (Text removed by MSE Forum Team)
And here we have M&S, a major UK company, that pulled out of advertising on 28th June after being shown its ads next to FB pages 'cute and gay boys' and 'photos vids young gay kids', returning to support a platform that has done nothing to remove the content, only the ads from pages and groups and not personal profiles.
This is scandalous and they are directly funding a platform that hosts disturbing and quite often illegal content.0 -
I'm not missing the point at all, I just don't agree with you.
Whether you like his tastes or not, I don't think you should be linking to individual profiles.0 -
And by "his taste", you mean his sexual attraction towards children? And what is the issue with linking to a publicly visible profile? If he wanted it to be private then it would be set to be so.0

Sorry, but this isn't about putting blinkers on and denying that an issue exists. Thank you for your input though.0 -
It takes a particular amount of brainlessness to link to all the offending pictures.
Photobucket must be really pleased that you've abused their service.
I don't suppose that MSE can be too pleased either bearing in mind that people of all ages and sensibilities view these forums.0
