Why do you think deleting a few of these programs will help?

How much RAM do you have? Have you established how full your hard drive is, possibly with other data unconnected to these programs?

Download WinDirStat and run it to see what's on your HDD.

    Investigate a RAM upgrade.

Are you accessing FB thru Chrome, Internet Explorer, or both?

I usually find re-installing the whole laptop freshens it up abit.

Just make sure to back up everything.

it's more to do with the memory being used than disk-space.

Before I retired out IT gurus always used to suggest a disk defrag to improve performance. I am sure one of the experts on here will advise if this is something to try.

I deleted a fair few things from my housemates computer, then done a disk clean up and defrag, it sorted it out a lot. It was only a netbook so had very little ram. First piece of advice do you use the programmes you recognise? If no then uninstall.

key is not to touch anything microsoft related and most of the time relating to your computer's make. Do you know how to do a disk clean up? I'd suggest that as well, then a defrag, as well as looking at your hard disk space and transferring old files onto external memory, whether it's an external hard drive, CDs, a cloud service.

You need to provide a list of RUNNING programs - programs on disk only take up space on disk and don't affect the running of the computer anymore than having 2 bookcases makes it harder to read a book

Download CCleaner, run the clean up - note if you want to keep your passwords uncheck that option.

Then see what is running in startup

I really don't think that suggesting that someone deletes pretty well everything that can be found in Add and Remove Programs is a good idea.

Particularly when the list includes XP Service Pack 3.

Alan Rowell's first paragraph is quite sensible.

I didn't suggest delete any programme, I said 'recognisable programmes' like if they dont use the DVD player or games. Most things on that list is needed to make the computer run.
