A lot of my local shops won't accept Uni student cards though - I'm at Durham (very well known!) and they still won't, they want NUS or nothing. Showcase Cinemas the first example that comes to mind.

Ahh well that's crap :( Might just go for an NUS then, its only like £14 a year or something :)

  • A lot of shops, and even online with someone like Unidays seem to offer discount with just a uni card, or proof that you're studying, so it does seem like the NUS card is becoming a little less relevant. I had one I used all the time in first year and by the third I think I only ever used it twice.

I dunno if you have to have an NUS card to get in the guild- I'll have to check that out actually :)

Some uni's aren't members of the NUS so you can't get a card. University of Southampton is one :(

I haven't bothered with the NUS card, I use uni daysto get online discounts you sign up with your student email address so you can only use it if you're a student. They don't offer the same discounts as NUS but they're pretty useful.

Just thought I'd add I'm at uni of Liverpool, our cards have the NUS symbol on the back so if you show that to a lot of people in shops they seem to accept it as an NUS card.

My uni isn't part of NUS, and only once in 3 years was my Uni ID not accepted (and that was a McDonald's, who say you can use a Uni ID card).

I didn't purchase one for my two years at college, but I wish I did for the Amazon discount - so I will be when I go to uni next September.

Saying that, no one's turned me away when I've used my college ID card. Plus I was able to use the same card online at New Look. :)
