its not a massive saving, whereas splitting the two events takes the pressure off.

Just done the very same thing yesterday. Now my tax expires 6 months after the MOT.

Well I'm clearly just tight then :D. I'm not paying the government an extra £4.25 for the benefit of having my MOT due six months earlier than my VED! (It would be more if my car was more expensive to tax of course.)

Thanks everyone. Turns out MOT ran out yesterday, so not prepared to make the declaration on the DVLA website that the car has an MOT. Think that I'll just have to risk it tbh. I won't drive it so hoping that it's all ok and it doesn't get spotted or flagged.

Just park it up until you take it to the pre-booked MOT. Even if it is parked up on the road outside your house with a just-expired MOT, I don't think you will have any bother. People get far too stressed out over these things these days.

    Wouldn't matter
    They check the MOT database

Just make sure the vehicle is 'continuously insured'.....purchase VED either online, or at a Post Office, once it has passed it's MoT.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I've driven for months without an MOT when the test and tax where not in sync. All my own fault and not something I did consciously.

I did get stopped in the end but they just told me to get it done ASAP and the car was in very good shape. I was lucky but the worst would probably have been a £30 fine.

Having no MOT is not a very big deal for the police. Having an unroadworthy vehicle is though. One is no guarantee of the other.
