MOT & tax about to run out
My MOT runs out today and I haven't been able to book my car in until Friday (2 August). That's fine as I can just not use the car and then drive it to the garage for the MOT as it's pre-booked so legal.
But my tax runs out on 31 July, and I can't renew without an MOT certificate.
The DVLA say you can tax within 14 days, but that the vehicle needs to be off the road during this time. However, obviously I need to get it to the MOT.
Is there anything I can do other than just risk it?

Driving to a pre-booked MOT test without tax is allowed, no risking it involved.0

Will you be able to park the vehicle off the road on 1st and 2nd August?
Make sure, as above, that the test is pre-booked (and that the garage actually keeps a record of the booking).
It would also be worth your while doing a pre-MOT check to head up any failures. A car that is past its MoT date, with all the hamstringing that that does to a driver, is manna from heaven for some garages.
Is there another MoT station you could use that can get it done sooner?0 -
Tax it online, as long as the mot is valid on the day the tax starts from you will be ok. As already said, you can drive to a pre booked mot without a valid tax disc if you need to.
Edit. Sorry just reread the post properly and see that your mot runs out before the tax so ignore the above.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

It may not be on the system until the next day.
We took a vehicle on Russian plates for an MoT last year, that whilst perfectly legal to drive in the UK on Russian plates, was in the process of being put on the road in the UK.
I remember, when taking it straight from the testing centre to the DVLA offices, it wasn't on the system for around 4 hours afterwards.
This may, however, have changed.

Tax it for 6 months this time, and for 12 months next time. this will ensure the tax/mot renewal periods do not conflict in future.0

And costs more money! Just planning ahead and getting the MOT done towards the start of the month avoids the current problem.0 -
