If you're lucky all you need to do is hold the power button down for 10 seconds till it shuts down then connect the charger for a few hours.

Boot in to "Fastboot" hold "Volume Down" then press and hold the power button till you get the fastboot menu.

If that works then select reboot and see if the Nexus boots normally! if not then you might have to go into recovery and reset the nexus!

Cheers for the advice. Its got no charge on it at the moment anyway so ill give it some juice then follow your instructions. Figers crossed

Tyler - once it's rooted, it's rooted. Going from stock 4.2 to stock 4.3 won't affect that. If you installed a custom ROM though, like CyanogenMod or something, it will be overwritten,

4.3 closes a few of the loopholes that allowed the user to have "root" access.

So when you upgrade to 4.3 you'll loose root access.
you'll have to get an updated version of "SuperSU" (think it's the only one that gives you root for now!)

Rooting a Nexus 7 is very easy but requires an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery. I recommend using TWRP.

Flash TWRP from here (fastboot flash recovery FILENAME.img).

Reboot into recovery (adb reboot recovery or hold Power+VolDn, then select Recovery).

Flash SuperSU from this post. I've seen some people complain that doing so via CWM doesn't work, but flashing through TWRP and selecting Fix Superuser Permissions at the end does the trick.

You should be rooted.

    I'm bored! Today!!!

I've not really used my Nexus7 in the past 6 months. After playing about with 4.3 on it I've decided to try Ubuntu Touch on it instead!

  • "Once you flash you never go back". After a recent change from ICS to cyanogen mod i couldn't be happier. opensource wins once again as my galaxy sII is not running slick and bloatware free.

Point being, you should root your phone and have some fun with it. If you need to return it t the store you can always restore factory settings and everybodies happy :)

That would be mostly you can return to stock but its not 100% .Occasional non working phones will still show warranty voiding details .
