Sky HD no HDMI input/output Solved

I have a new Sky HD+ box and on connecting it to my TV I cannot view the HDMI output.

My TV is a Sony Bravia HD tv with a digital HD tuner, I get terrestrial HD channels, and it shows the HDMI input on the top corner of the screen which I presume means that it knows that there is an HDMI device connected but the screen is otherwise blank.

When I connect the Sky+ HD box via the scart socket I can view the picture OK.

Just not with the HDMI socket.

Do I need to change some setting somewhere?

What is the difference between a poundshop HDMI lead costing £1 and an Asda HDMI lead costing £5?

The Asda lead works.
