What can I expect now from Orange?

I recently had a contract for both mobile and home Broadband with Orange, though I omitted to have the landline deal with them and stuck with BT.

However, I have now worked out that if I just stick with Pay-As-You-Go and am disciplined with it, I can probably go for months without having to top up, so when my Orange mobile contract was due to end, I rang Orange and informed them I didn't want it to be renewed. I now have a Vodafone Pay-As-You-Go sim, and my Vodafone contract ended yesterday.

I rang the Orange mobile contract people several times in the days before my contract ended just to ensure that we were on track to end the contract, because, Orange being Orange, I didn't want them to trick me into staying with them. I asked one advisor how it would affect my home Broadband, which is currently around £10-ish a month, and he assured me the Broadband was completely separate and wouldn't be affected. Another advisor said, rather smugly and patronisingly, "Well, if you leave your contract your Broadband will go up an extra fiver or tenner a month."

There was a contradiction involved here so I rang the Orange home Broadband people and spoke to a helpful-sounding lady who, after I'd informed her of the situation, explained that my Broadband would still be £10 a month unless I tried to change the plan in which case they would notice that I wasn't on an Orange mobile contract and would charge me more.

This strikes me as being exceptionally odd. Didn't they notice I wouldn't be on an Orange contract when I told them it would be ending? Don't the mobile and home Broadband people speak to each other?

What delights can I expect now from Orange? If I try to cancel the home Broadband, how may I expect to be ripped off? Is there any way I can get to be guaranteed to keep it as £10 a month? (Hey, if you don't ask, you don't get.)

Thinking about it, I didn't need to include half of that text, but if you've taken the trouble to read it all, you have my gratitude and the benefit of knowing about my personal experience of how strange Orange are.

So you pay £10 a month just for the broadband from orange and your line rental is with BT?

Looking at the EE site it is £5 a month for basic broadband (which i assume you have). So I guess you pay £10 because of the £5 non-orange customer? Do you have your home phone with orange as well or?

Have you checked your orange bills (online or mail) to see what the £10 charge is for?
