virgin media have given me (or rather their going to once my acc is active) £200 welcome credit .

seeing that ill be paying by direct debit, whats the best way to make sure this credit gets used up (so effectively I get the first few months free)?

im assuming the direct debit payments will still get taken out of my bank account even though my virgin account will be in credit? I called virgin to ask and the guy says if my account is in credit no direct debit payments will be taken but I don't think that's true coz im in credit with my electricity and my payments still get taken via direct debit so I reckons the virgin rep is misinformed.

should I cancel my direct debit till my credit is used up and set up direct debit again?

Leave it in place as they won't charge until the credit is used up.

Electric and gas are different- you expect to be in credit during the summer months as most usage is in the winter unless you have air conditioning and live somewhere hot for weeks on end.
  • Personally I would avoid Virgin. We've had a Tivo & 60mb broadband since February & they have both never worked properly. Broadband speed has never been more than 21mb & the internet drops for a minute or so numerous times a day. The Tivo box reboots all the time, freezes & On Demand is frequently unavailable. If you ring them they just tell you to reboot the Tivo box & as for the broadband speeds, they come up with all sorts of lies for why it's slow. yesterday I was told by one of the tech people that even though I had turned off WiFi, my ipad - which was also turned off at the time - would still be affecting the speed on my wired speed test! As my husband is a network engineer I found that one hilarious! And when you tell them you've had enough & want to switch to a reliable ISP, they say you're tied into the full contract & have to pay £200 to leave! Avoid them at all costs!

For Service- I would not touch Virgin-
My son cancelled his Internet Services today.
Notice was give months ago. His tenancy expires today.
An e-mail confirmation was received -confirming they will collect
equipment today. Could not say AM or PM

My son waited all day from 8am to 8pm and they did not come.
On top of that, they had disconected the service this morning.
So he could not contact them via internet.

So I dont know if he has left the equipment when he vacated the premises at 8pm.
    AWFUL SERVICE
