Guild wars - 1 month, couldn't get into it at all
Eve Online - 6 years?! Something crazy.. had a varied game playing career, made some awesome friends from it (who in turn are now RL friends as we used to attend Eve online socials)

Now it's just xbox 360 and BF3, don't have the time for MMO's anymore!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

Only played FFXI and, as good as XIV looks, I don't think I'll be getting it. I've played XI since 2005, and still log on now. I'm probably going to unsubscribe this month though, as the latest expansion pretty much killed off everything from the last 8 years. It used to be a case where each expansion would just give new options, whereas now it seems to go towards the WoW format of linear progression on gear. That, combined with several delays by Square Enix and poor communication, means I don't trust them as a company.

    WoW
    SWtOR
Defiance (although not sure it really counts)
    Rift

Stopped playing WoW and Star Wars after I lost my last job and never got the subscriptions renewed when I started work. I was getting fed up with the Cartel Coin nonsense in SWtOR (even as a subscriber).

Having fun in Rift at the moment although I don't intend to spend any real cash for ingame stuff any time soon...

Was enjoying defiance but felt that very little was added to the game by the latest dlc and have stopped playing for now...

Played Eve Online for 4 or 5 years and had to quit after I found myself spinning ships and just using it as a chat client half the time... Great game though and it formed some of my most memorable gaming experiences, both good and bad. I just ran out of stuff to do though, going through most roles the game had to offer up to dreadnought pilot. I quite just before they introduced wormholes and buffed exploring, so there's probably lots to go back to know, but it was also starting to get a little costly... I wonder how much 3bil isk is now by today's wallet standards?
  • Currently playing Lord of the Rings Online, amazing game for Tolkien fans, absolutely steeped in lore. Used to play WoW, but as I got older, I realised just home immature the community is overall. LotRO is much more mature overall. Loved Diablo 2, played it to death, also played a good chunk of Guild Wars and have just recently re-installed it.
  • The only one I really got into was Runescape. I played it on and off from 2004 but in 2007 I made a new account and unfortunately got really addicted for a couple of years. My favourite thing to do was treasure trails, slayer and quests. I stopped playing last year, I log in once every now and again but can't really get back into it with all the changes.

World of Warcraft - played it for many years, but stopped last year as even the pandas couldn't help with the drag feeling after so long
Eve - played for a bit, fun in it's own way, but found it could get boring and repetative
Lord of the Rings online - played briefly, but found it to be nothing special
Guild Wars - leveled 1 or 2 characters, but never played it much
Aoin - Nice graphics, but as many Asian games, a big grind factor
Rift - Was ok, never really got into it though
Tabula Rasa - quite enjoyed it as it was something different, shame they axed it
SWTOR - Still play it, don't play it so much for endgame, but I do enjoy leveling characters. Also finding myself wanting to buy cartel coins for the most useless stuff, so I might just stop playing for a bit as it will get too expensive otherwise
FF14 - just started playing and so far enjoying it. Has an Asian feel, but still works for us Westerners

Everquest - Best. Game. Ever. Spent years playing almost nothing else and don't regret it for a moment. Only quit because my boyfriend was getting sulky about not getting to play any other computer games with me. Happy memories of filling up Crushbone with dwarf bodies as I died again and again and again unsuccessfully trying to get my corpse with all my gear on back, and of creeping around the very edge of Kithcor Forest at night when the higher level undead spawned. I particularly miss the wonderful community (still in touch with several old guildies, 5 years or so after quitting) and the specialised pulling and crowd-control classes. I've never played anything else that had those as specialised roles up there with tank, healer and dps.

EQ2 - Tried it next. It was ok but missing the old EQ magic for me. At least it had iksar. Iksar rock. I can forgive a lot for just having iksar.

Eve - Really interesting, but never quite got involved enough with the community to get the best out of it.

AoC - played it as a solo game like Skyrim for a few months. It was ok but nothing special.

Warhammer Online - OMG the lag and the random crashes. Or was that just the beta? Can't remember now.

Aion/WoW/Rift/LoTR/DaoC - Run to a, collect x and take them to b who will give you a very slight upgrade of 1 item, times a million. Way too linear. Little maps telling you exactly where to go. No incentive to go exploring and get thoroughly lost in a strange part of the world with no way to port back. They've all merged together a bit in my head.

Give me an MMO that forces you to group up even in the early levels if you want to be able to kill anything. Give me real freedom in where I go next and who I talk to to - not 'your next quest-giver is here' markers! Give me downtime (waiting for rare spawns, medding, whatever) so that people will talk to each other instead of just wordlessly hitting things. Give me high level creatures roaming around some newbie zones so that I can never quite relax, and raid mobs that need strategy and cooperation to beat. Make death really mean something (although possibly not an all-night corpsedrag expedition - haven't got the time for that these days). Then I'll play an MMO again.
