Transfer PAYG Mobile Credit

Hi folks.

I have a Tesco Mobile PAYG SIM which has around £20 credit. I'd like to move to the Three 321 PAYG deal but at the rate I use credit it will take me about 3 months to use what's left on my Tesco SIM (£5 per month for a data bundle with the rest going on small number of calls & texts).

I'd like to be able to transfer this credit to the new Three SIM prior to porting my number over and also transfer a small amount to a Virgin PAYG SIM I use for data in a tablet.

Can anyone direct me to an economical mobile credit transfer facility that will allow me to move the credit to the other SIMs? Any help appreciated.

Regards - Andy

I don't think this is possible, but others will correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe it is possible to "sell" your credit, but you only get around 50% of it back (ie 50% efficient)

Why not donate it to your favourite charity? This is 125% efficient as all the credit goes to the charity as cash and you can add another 25% at no extra cost via gift aid.

Not sure you can do this. Maybe wait before you change to a new network? Or keep this SIM card simultaneously with your new phone and change the number later?

You cant transfer credit from one provider to another.

Please read the Tesco Mobile PAYG Terms and Conditions. The following will apply.

5.1 You may end your Agreement with us by no longer using the Tesco Mobile or by calling Customer Care and requesting a disconnection. If you stop using Tesco Mobile or request a disconnection any Credit on your Account will not be refunded and you may lose your Mobile Phone Number.

You can turn it into about £12 cash by using services like GetPoundsBack but it takes a while to get the money, and you have to rely on it working - search the forum for users' experiences.

As Herongull says, you could also donate to charity If you have any friends doing anything sponsored via JustGiving, they can set up a text code to donate and a £5 donation text donates £5. Example. Plenty of charities have their own codes, too.

You can often transfer credit between PAYG accounts with the same provider in the same customer's name. This is useful if you want to avoid losing your credit altogether when porting your number to another provider.
  • Have you thought about using the credit to place a bet.

    some bookmakers accept text bets.

Winning could be withdrawn as cash, if you bet wins.

Hi all. Thanks for your replies. I'd had a bit of a 'Google' before posting this and couldn't really find much, I just thought someone here might know of something I missed. Not to worry, I'll probably use the SIM a bit longer and then send the remaining credit to a charity before porting the number. Thanks again - Andy.
  • I was just thinking about what Stuart said. There are some services you can use to pay people money from your phone - I am not sure if some of these maybe use your phone credit to pay them. You could try using one of those to pay yourself, and then use that money to top up your new phone? This is probably an app so I am not sure if you are able to use it on your payg phone but it might be worth looking into if your phone supports apps.
