Have you thought about asking for some overtime then, or maybe retraining, and getting into a career that pays better?
Finance for example, it offers some pretty good packages if you have the intelligence and work ethic needed to make it there.0 -
i don't think you understand what they do
Yes I understand what they do.
They review my portfolio quarterly (more often if anything ad-hoc comes up).
They review the asset balance and the funds and look at the ecoomic outlook and recommend swicthes (which are free) or not as the case may be.
The other thing they do is offer free advice e.g. they recently advised my husband on starting his own business.OR - you have already bought all the insurance.
Nope.
I already have what is sufficient for my needs thanks.
They have NEVER tried to sell me insurance.
I already have life insurance which is inside a pension wrapper getting 40% tax relief on the premiums - thanks very much.
But of course I'm sure you'll feel free to make up something uninformed or untrue if you wish.
Why not ask questions to ascertain the truth instead?0 -

Of course if dunstonh admits (or denies) he is paid I will stop pursuing this matter.
My head is well above the sand and if you paid attention you would have seen I already said why I don't think he is paid (ie his occasionally blunt responses among other things. Go back and look.)
As for evidence? What evidence? I see none.0 -

I'm absolutely amazed that you are still trying to prolong this thread over this.
Dunstonh has no intention of either admitting or denying if he is paid or not. Why should he as it is nobody's business but his own? The only person that seems bothered is you. If you continue in this way, you are only going to get yourself PPR'd again, just like your 2 previous usernames for exactly the same reason.
As bowlhead has said, you have decided that he is paid based on your "evidence". The majority of posters on here either disagree or don't care. All the IFAs currently posting on this forum bring a lot to it and it would be a big loss if they decided they couldn't be bothered any more because of threads like this.0 -

Please.
The reason I've never used it is because, without any special training, I find it entirely effortless not to read posts I wouldn't find of interest. I've read only three posts in this thread, including just the last two sentences of the one by you, and find I can equally easily not read 99.999% of the other posts to this site.
If you find ignoring posts more challenging then I understand your annoyance but on the other hand I do think it's important that we shouldn't try to stop others posting their views unless their posts break the rules - in which case I suggest you contact a moderator. There's a convenient button to help you do that too I believe.0 -

If you have only read the last two sentences of bowlhead's post, and only two other posts in the thread, then you are hardly in any position to comment in returnLiving for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

Bowlhead's contributions on this thread ( and indeed across the forums) are consistently well informed, well considered and well written. In this case he was responding to a poster whose contributions,on this thread at least, have been the polar opposite.
If you do not read the thread then your comment is by definition ill informed.I will find the ignore button and use your post as practice0 -

Fair comment, you have me thereAnd I did mean to leave a smiley at the end to show no ill feeling. I suppose it's not good form to tell someone to shut up while putting in the last word myself...
My intentions were pure: attempting to explain to the poster that his point has been understood but that nobody needs to hear it a hundred different ways. Actually, the same point a hundred different ways is how I'd try it. The same point the same way a hundred times is how the other poster is trying to do it.
Cheers for the insight though, I'll look into those features0 -
Just to remind everyone what this thread was about:

Perhaps you could elaborate for the benefit of the thread?
1. How long were you with the IFA/S?
2. After charges ( I'm sure you agree that an IFA should be paid for his/her advice as opposed to working for free ), what was your return?0
