Dog Grooming

Options
Hi, Just wanted to ask for your help in a bit of market research. My sister in law is setting up a Dog Grooming Business. I would like to ask those of you that have your dogs groomed - how much you pay - Groom, or just a wash and bush. Please can you include what breed of dog you have and how often you get this done. I'm hoping your not all real money savers and do it yourself:)

Thank you
Nutty Bird

I don't get mine done at the groomers so can't help with that but thought it may be worth you also ask general area of the country too. Anything in the general vicinity of London is likely to be at least double that of a small Yorkshire town.
  • My Akita is done once every 5 - 6 weeks, full works and is £27

This is very cheap for our area and I have been quoted £40:eek:

However, I go every 5/6 weeks religiously and she is in at 9 am and out of there by 11 am.

And we are very much regulars

Groomer charges £27 for small dogs for the works, should be more for bigger dogs, but she doesnt really do anyone else's!

    Hope this helps

Ive only taken mine to the dog groomer once. I have two cavalier king Charles spaniels and they washed, cut and and groomed them for £25 each.

Ive had several quotes for my cavs and they have all been £25 per dog.

My dogs get a hair cut at the beginning of summer and again at the end of summer.

My large Yorkie costs £27 for full groom including nails if he'd let them.

Like Judi I get him done twice a year at the beginning and end of summer, in between I trim him myself.

My Bichon frise (puppy) costs £25

    Done every 6 weeks ish

I am in Doncaster but travel to Selby, (best groomer for Bichons.)

We make sure Ollie is fully brushed out and not knotty, I think its bad to take a knotty dog to the groomers and expect them to sort it.

Am very happy with our groomer/(breeder). In fact Ollie goes next sat and i feel sorry for my groomer as Ollie is losing his puppy coat so I am going to give her extra. She will earn it believe me.

I wish your Sister good luck x

We have a Skye terrier in West Yorkshire.
He goes to the groomers every 10 weeks or so, where he's known as Mr Grumpy.
They charge £27 for shampoo and cut which we think is fair especially as he is not the most willing customer, hence the nickname.

We've tried various other groomers and their prices are about the same.

Local branch of Pets at Home quoted £42 !

One of mine gets groomed, the other not as he doesn't need it.

She's a big dog, Golden Retriever cross, 40kg and I have her groomed every 10 weeks costing £22.

This is for shampoo, blow dry, nails cut and flea treatment.

And fur cut really short too.

    PPI Party Pooper
    Dog 1 - Rough Collie
    Cost of groom - £35
    Area - Cumbria
How often - Every 8 - 10 weeks (I groom him myself in between)

    Dog 2 - Akita
    Cost of groom - £20
    Area - Cumbria
How often - Every 8 - 10 weeks (I groom her myself in between)

My groomer is one of those who comes to your house and brings her equipment, so she's using my water, electricity etc. I'm very happy with the prices; in fact I always tip very well as I think she undercharges for the great job she does of them. :)
