Late payment fee.

Hi,

Hope people can help me.

I made a minimum credit card payment online on the 29th May as stated from Halifax. I thought I saved myself, but today I received my statement which shows I have a late payment fee of £12.

I phone Halifax credit company who says that it take 3 days for payment to reach them, before I paid I did not realise that. I ask why I have to pay £12 admin fee, which they say is by law and they went through the procedure for the of the admin fee.

Surely since I made payment on deadline online I had complied with their rules. Or is it my fault and face paying the £12 admin charge, can I challenge the £12 which is ridculous?

Thanks!

I have had the same problem with Halifax card services, and when i rang them they were totally inflexible, and refused to let me off the late fee even though it was the first time.I told them i'll be moving my balance as soon as the interest free period is up!!

  • I know.

I'm suprised that it takes 3 working days for my payment to transfer online. Since it usually takes second to transfer money from halifax account to another.

£12 for admin fee is over the top, is this right. The operator told me why it's £12, but I guess all operators that to learn that to explain to customers.

The time to allow for payment clearance is (generally) clearly stated on the reverse (or on page 2) of your Halifax statement.

You might be moving it sooner than you think then, because many (most/all?) providers are now removing the 0% rate if you miss a payment. Check your small print, or better still ring the provider because otherwise the first you'll know is when you get your next statement including an interest charge.

Did you not read anything that has been sent to you by Halifax in connection with the card? It is written clearly on their statements, in the terms and conditions, on their website, everywhere.

Honestly I dont see how you can complain when you didnt read the instructions on payment.

Since the advent of reclaiming bank charges, there is a general trend of banks no longer giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Baffling really - More people are claiming back charges, so the Banks are inflexible - But by being inflexible, customers just walk (No future profits), complain in writing (Which costs more than £12 to handle), or find this site, which gives advice on claiming back 6 years worth of charges. It just makes no sense to me.

i have to pay my capital one card a few days before its due as it takes 3 days to clear, this is written in the contract when i took the card out. i have had the card 6 years and have never paid any charges as i always settle my bills promptly, therefore not making them any profits.

The annoying thing is some companies like capital 1 you can't even make a debit card payment over the phone, I got back from business last month and realised my capital 1 card was due the next day, phoned them to see if I could make an immediate debit card payment to be told "Sorry we don't allow payments via that method"

If you havent done so already then setup a direct debit for the minimum account.

Banks have BECOME inflexible due to large numbers of people complaining about charges. We customers cannot have it both ways.
