Late payment fee.

The answer is actually quite simple
Either pay direct debit (at least the minimum payment) - then you will always pay on time.
Or take time to read how long it takes for your payment reaches to your account and what methods are accepted by the company, then put the date you need to pay by in your diary.
If one deviates from this and presumes something else, and ends up being charged then one has no one to blame but oneself.0 -
I have noticed this with a few of the card company as well.
They sit and hope you will slip up ...then in comes that juicy 12 pounds.
The first poster said they quoted its the law to charge the late payment fee.
When did this law go throu parliment ?
It was changed around a year ago I beleive.0 -
As several posts have indicated, the payment timescales are on the back of every statement - you have no grounds to appeal, the charge should stand.0

I work for GE Money...the late payment charges are standard we have something called a grace period to give card holders a few more days to pay before a LPC is slapped on there account.
Internet banking can take 3 days to hit the account as its sent thru and then a phone money has to sit and process the details ( well with us they do anyway)
I would try and contest it as its your first one ( I hope!) our general rule is to remove the first one and educate the customer of timescales due dates ect.
Be Polite even tho you prob don't want to and if they still refuse write in again being polite saying it was an honest mistake and the account is now up to date as a gesture of goodwill can they remove the charge....I would always say yes to someone who is calm and polite acknowledges there mistake rather than someone ranting down the phone who is not prepared to listen to why the charges go on.
Hope this helps not only yourself but anyone who reads it!0 -

Under Common Law, the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and the the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 they can raise a charge. The only problem is that it should only cover their costs, which are probably about £2 at most.
Internet banking is also little more than a shiny "front end" for the old BACS system which, with the exception of the computers, would still not be unfamiliar to someone in a 18th century coffee house. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Thanks for the information.
Yes it was my fault of the late payment no one to blame but me, I forgot about payment until the last day, when I remembered about my credit payment.
Using online I thought it would be direct payment like bank transfers to another Halifax account. Live and learn and all that, but I'll call again and see if they can waive the charge.0 -
Not helping you now, I know, But I have found if you pay a Halifax CC in branch it credits the account next day.0

If they dont refund the charge, just tell them you will never use their card again.
I was charged £12 by Mint , for late payment by 9 days on a total owed of £3.58.
I have paid up except for a few pence (They wrote this off) and cut the card up.
I have just returned from a trip to Europe. Might have used my Mint card ..however used a different card to pay my £1500 pounds worth of hotel bills.
Also promote Mint card as a hobby now
