    had a go at a little excel model to simulate this.

    Only run it a couple of times but it supports RHemmings figures.

    It assumes that each person picks a number randomly and counts the number of entries before a) all the numbers are picked at least once, b) only 1 number is left with a single pick.


    Run 1: 8306 entries would have been needed = £249,180
    Run 2: 7788 entries = £233,640


    Course to get a true average you would run the model many hundreds of times. But i've got better things to do.
