Meat packaging and microwaves

I'm another one who removes packaging before putting anything in the microwave - chemicals from plastics and styrofoam can migrate into food if they're microwaved and some places put security labels that contain metal on meats (since there are so many people who shoplift the stuff) so I wouldn't risk putting it in the microwave.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

I don't thaw anything out in the Micro, I don't think it is safe bacteria wise.
If you cannot take a product out of the freezer the night before and put it in your fridge to defrost, then you should eat something else.
Microwaves to me, are for heating up ready meals, re heating your tea, or heating up me sponge pud and custard ! And I am a Teccy!0 -

Personally, I disagree completely with that. I cook large batches of food, freeze them, then defrost and heat to temperature in the microwave. Or I get out a chicken breast / pork chop etc and defrost them in the microwave. Never had food poisoning from doing that, and I struggle to think why you think it's unsafe. I rarely know what I want to eat the night before, so having the microwave is extremely useful.0 -

I KNOW it's safe to thaw food in a microwave. Do you think microwave manufacturers would included a defrost cycle if it wasn't? If that's all your using your microwave for you're clearly not that 'teccy'.0 -

Just as well but instead, phone the DVLA and demand that they take your licence back.
The roads are bad enough without blind people on them.0 -

So you operate a microwave without reading the instructions for the actual microwave then?
I'd say you have been lucky to no have had a fire before now.0 -
Your eyesight can't be that bad if you are driving a car:

It is possible that the OP is long sighted, and so would be safe to drive.0 -
Just put it down to experience OP, Im another 1 who would also remove an item from the packaging before I defrost in a microwave.0
