Is this home insulation grant genuine?

A leaflet was put through the front door by a company called keep warm, claiming there is a free insulation government grant.

I have been searching around the internet to check that this is not a scam, but unfortunately the only reference to this specific scheme was on the companies own website. I can't seem to find any official government website mentioning the scheme.

Could someone please tell me if this is genuine or not, and if it is provide a link to a government page mentioning the scheme.

Many thanks.

Company is probably legit but I was under the impression that the govt grants for this had ended (although many suppliers have their own schemes)

  • Yeah as you say I did see the which page during my searching, and the fact the date is way off is what makes me feel sceptical.

But now seeing the MSE page and the date is recent I am not sure. I would have thought that there would have been a .gove.uk site page somewhere, so people who are unsure of the validity of things like this have that to find as confirmation.

Suppose there's no harm in giving them a call to find out how it works if you are interested, its a freephone number (don't give them your address). Tell them you heard that the grants had ended in 2012, see what they say.

I used BG in Jan 2012 and at the time I was not on any income related benefits but I think their scheme is still going so could be worth a call: http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy-saving/home-insulation/free-insulation.html?WT.mc_id40060060&WT.srch=1&source=ECO-PPC-Free-Insulation

My son got free cavity wall insulation under a Government Scheme for hard-to-insulate properties. (he lives in a three-storey block of flats). I can't remember the name of the scheme, but it was all legit and he has not had to pay a penny. He is not on any Benefits. It is also not a loan through the energy company like some are. He does not have to pay anything back .

This is a reply someone gave to me when I asked a question about my son's insulation and it gives the name of the scheme:

Just to confirm in your sons case the insulation would be free as it would be treated under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) the strand name carbon emissions reduction obligation (CERO)

Under this scheme its free to treat hard to treat cavity walls and 3 or more story properties fall into hard to treat.

    Hi

The grant may well be genuine but you do not need to use the company, apply directly to the providers at the bottom of the MSe article.

The company may be using this as a way of identifying sales leads so they can sell more expensive stuff or they may have some way of charging you for advice that is otherwise free when you could get it for nothing.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
