Vanquis Mail "Pre-Selected to Apply"

Hi,

I do not have a credit card and I am looking forward to obtain my first. I have applied/checked a few times with various providers in the last 3 years without success.

Last week, I received a mail from Vanquis Bank stating that I am "Pre-Selected" to apply for their credit card. However when I called them up for details, I was told that credit card isn't guaranteed and application will require credit check.

What I would like to know is whether this mail means that my credit rating has improved in the last few months so that I might be able to get my first credit card or is it a random marketing mail.

Thanks in advance

Regards

    Yes.

Do you have any idea why you're being declined? Best to try and understand this before making any applications.

'Pre-selected to apply' is the greatest marketing phrase ever invented.

It simply means 'we have sent you an application form'.

    Thanks for the reply.

As I understand, my applications were rejected because of a lack of credit history. As per my Experian report, only credit accounts I have are a post-paid sim-only mobile phone connection for last 6 months and a bank account with an over draft limit of 1000 pounds (which I never used)

I really need to build credit history with a credit card so that I can have decent deal with mortgage a few years down the line.

What did your bank (the one that receives your income) say when you asked them for a credit card?

Are you on the electoral roll at your current address?

To be honest, Vanquis are the most likely to accept you. They will have bought names from Experian and run some sort of selection criteria across them so they don't buy prospects who definitely would be rejected.

So you may want to give it a go. It's far from guaranteed, but perhaps worth a shot. If Vanquis say no, then I wouldn't try anywhere else for some time

I am with Lloyd's . I run my own limited company and most of my personal income is taken as dividends in bulk once or twice an year. This means lack of regular income for thaw bank and hence they refuse me credit card. Thus i was trying to regularly transfer money to personal account every month.

And this is coming from someone who's got a Maestro symbol as an Avatar who struggles to gain a credit history due to failing to pay back his debts.

    Goodnight Maestro you're boring Pal.

I don't know where you've got your information from, but the only "debt" I have is a tiny ~£1000 on a 0% balance transfer. I've used sub prime products in the past to simply build a history having had none since turning 18, and have never paid a penny in interest. I have never had any other "debt" that I've failed to repay, so you must have me confused for someone else.

You're just raging I've got you all worked out! You're crap at hiding who you are and you'll end up being PPR'd again soon!

I've never been PPR'd as you've clearly mistaken me as this Bugsy fella who clearly is not me.
