That is the reason going by the online moaning but I doubt that it is really such a huge problem, more lack of parking spaces in my opinion.
It's not like it's a pain getting parking in the town centre nor is it expensive, I park in the pay ones all the time.
sadly I think the reciept is now in the bin but shall check at home, but paid by card so there is a record of it on my account.
I'm furious because my kid has had grommets and bad health so has been near impossible to go swimming with her and now when we go we get bagged with this fine.

OK, that'll do, send 'em a copy of your card statement (you might want to obscure the card number first; not saying they are dishonest, but we are talking about a private parking company...)

Don't be tempted to write in an appeal based upon your son's grommets. What happened was that, familiar with the previous regime, you failed to notice the change. I can see no mitigation based on your lad's health..

You therefore have to, as suggested, make a winning appeal based upon you being a bona-fide user of the facilities, bad signage both in the car park and internally. At least for starters.

Just got the reply and they dropped the charges, result.
Thanks for the excellent advice people and to them for listening to a well reasoned argument.

Thanks for coming back. If you feel that the forum has been of help, could you return the favour and let us know what appeal points you used and won with? It helps us help others.
  • I found this forum via Google and found it incredibly helpful as I too have received a PCN from Civil Enforcement Ltd as my car was parked Sportspace Hemel Hemstead. I followed your advice and have now received a POPLA from these sharks. What's the next step? (The person who parked my car at the centre was a legitimate user and was at the centre for a child's birthday party and therefore doesn't have a receipt for the activity at the centre. They didn't see the signs and entered the building through a side entrance - let in my by another parent at the party - and therefore didn't pass by the signage prompts). The letter I have received says if the POPLA appeal is rejected I will have to pay the full charge amount (I think this is £150, reduced to £75 if paid in the next 14 days). Please advise what the likelihood of my being successful is. Many thanks in advance.

  • In response to withasmile, I suspect most appeals will be successful, especially given the response we received when we appealed.

See the below for further information:

A would link to the blog post about it but the system isn't letting me.

Google "ben collier sportspace parking fine" and it ought to be the top result.
  • I'm awaiting the result of the POPLA decision. Fingers crossed.
