hi,i have a bit of an unusual reason for which i feel im entitled to compensation from easy jet but not entirely sure because havent read anything in this regard so wanted a bit of guidance if anyone can offer!me,my husband and our two children got tickets from london to rome on easyjet.we were due to catch a connecting flight to new york jfk from rome.at the boarding gate in london heathrow we were informed that we cannot board the flight as we need a visa for italy which we did not have (since we were only going to be in transit in rome we saw no reason to have a visa for italy)the easyjet staffer then informed us that they were not a transit airline and when travelling with them we infact require the visa.they did not inform us of this when we were checking in infact charged us excess baggage fee.nowhere on their website have they mentioned this fact, how can they just assume that everyone must know this?we certainly didnt!they off loaded our luggage, handle and wheel of one suitcase was broken about which they refused any compensation.they didnt refund our ticket, not even the excess baggage amount we paid although our luggage was off loaded.on the whole extremely unhelpful.we missed our new york connection as a result, had to buy very expensive tickets on another airline, had to travel between heathrow and gatwick inorder to do that and spent the night at a nearby hotel.the physical and mental stress my kids,my husband and myself underwent i cannot even describe in words.it should be written on their website that they arent a transit airline,it should not come as a rude shock when one is standing at the boarding gate about to board!!are we entitled to a compensation?any info would be helpful, thanks.

It sounds like you were not entirely sure if Easyjet was a transit airline or not. You checked all of their website to find out but could not find an answer. Despite this, you checked in and turned up anyway in the hope that everything would be ok. It unfortunately was not.
I don't see that you have any basis for a compensation claim.0 -
hat the boarding gate in london heathrow we were informed that we cannot board the flight ....
....had to travel between heathrow and gatwick inorder to do that
note: you may have some details the wrong way round, Easyjet do not fly from London Heathrow...
It is always the travelers responsibility to ensure they have the travel documentation required
here is some info from the Easyjet site re transit (a quick search on "transit" in the support page)
http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4120/kw/transit
I doubt your travel insurance would even cover you for this so you may have to chalk it up to an expensive error0 -
Sounds to me like it's your mistake so no compensation.
Easyjet don't even cover you if you travel from Scotland - London and then miss a London - Europe flight, WITH Easyjet!0
