MSE News: Amazon scraps some free deliveries – but you can beat the charges

If you can wait a while for what you're after, save the items you want in your shopping basket and hold back from buying them until the total value is over £10.
As amazon prices seem to change with the wind, if you spot a good deal I suggest you buy there and then, rather than wait.
I suppose if you wait, then you will get free delivery as the price would have probably increased to over £10

Amazon Super Saver Free Delivery only applies to amazon stock or orders 'fullfilled by amazon'Marigold123 wrote: »A question. The article states, "Amazon says any order which includes a book, DVD, Blu-ray, music item or video game will get free delivery."
Does this also apply to orders including items from Amazon Marketplace sellers? Until now they've always had their own scale of charges, and you can easily be charged two, three or more sets of delivery costs for the same order if you buy from different merchants. Has this now changed? If not, this article needs amending.
Thanks.
Other Marketplace sellers specify thier own p+p prices (although amazon actually set it for them if they are small fry sellers)
None of this has changed.0 -
Amazon could probably save on postage and packaging charges by using more appropriately sized boxes.
I ordered a mains plug sized mains adaptor for a Kindle. Just that, not with a lead as well.
The box it came in was larger than the original box the secondhand Kindle came in, and could as easily have held 12 to 20 books.0 -
I don't really see it as much of a problem. I pretty much compare 2 places before buying, Amazon & eBay. It'll still be the same, whichever is cheapest I'll buy from. I don't see why some people will now no longer use Amazon, if they are still cheapest (once p & p is added) then why not buy from them?0

I agree.Money-Saving-King wrote: »I don't really see it as much of a problem. . .
I think most of us, these days, are looking at the bottom line when we purchase and if Amazon are more expensive then they will lose custom.
Look out for a possible Amazon re-think in the coming months.

The trouble is that Amazon's customer service is still too damn good. I've emailed them about a problem with something 11 months after purchase and they've sent out a replacement on next day delivey. Try that with eBay, PC World, etc.0

Yes, it is reassuring to know that Amazon keeps itself in the loop when you buy from suppliers you might not otherwise touch with a bargepole. The trouble is that Amazon's customer service is still too damn good. . .
But times are hard for many these days and the bottom line can be very persuasive. Only time will tell whether Amazon suffers any significant loss of custom as a result of the change.

I've never just used Amazon, I've always shopped around. I've always included the p&p in the cost.
What I have found out, the hard way, is that if it says there's only one left, DON'T ORDER!
I did this with a book I wanted. It never seemed to be dispatched so after a week I contacted them and found it was out of stock and they didn't know when they'd get more in.
O.K, easy to how it could happen with the last one but at least they was honest about its availability!0 -
Looking on the bright side, this will make us small fry marketplace sellers more attractive to buyers. Free delivery on all of my items!
