Broadband usage and BT

I have BT broadband & phone. Recently I had several messages to say I was using all my download allowance and I should upgrade to avoid steep charges.
I tried to do this on BT website and chose a package where the only change was unlimited broadband at a slightly lower price than my current package (£2 less monthly) but when I went to checkout the selection had magically changed to a package at £5 per month more than I am paying at the moment.
Then I noticed that all BT broadband packages had become unlimited. So I rang up and yes, from the telephone sales people I can get unlimited broadband at the same price as I paid for 40gb previously.
I think that is a little too crafty - the web offers were not online specials. I think all offers should be available by phone or internet unless shown phone or intrnet special offiers. And I don't think I should be sent emails suggesting I upgrade to get unlimited broadband without telling me I can simply change my current package to unlimited without increased charges.
