No useful advice but, if you're worried that the house may get trashed while you're away, do you have a relative that would house sit for you?

Unfortunately not. My Mum will be 90 next year and my sister has grandchildren and a son living at home. My wife is a blow in from Scotland so all her folks are across the sea! We really have been battling this for years on our own.

Our son has assaulted the 2 of us several times but mainly his Mum but I'm the only one to have taken action by phoning the police and that was about 18 months ago.

As for the medication issue, he says it makes him sleepy and he doesn't want to be conking out at what I would consider a reasonable bed time.

Thanks for the responses, its very comforting to hear views that would be similar to my own but its getting everyone on board with the idea that the line has been crossed a long while ago and things will only get worse inevitably until something really serious happens.

He has lit his carpet, had a knife in his hand to threaten a younger brother, trashed the place, put a bedroom wall through yet he says we are the ones that don't unerstand him. No remorse, no apologies and just resentment and expecting us to live with his attitude, mess and poor lifestyle choices.

Not going on a holiday he wanted will be the final straw for me I think.

    Hi
Now that you have further explained exactly the types of behaviours I really think he needs to leave your home, lighting his carpet, assaulting other household members, threatening someone with a knife and putting a wall through these are all serious with the potential for a real tragedy to take place.

It may be difficult but you can not continue to put him before the safety of the other people in the home, including yourself.
