Lambeth Council upgrades all house sin street from D to E

I got a letter from the council recently saying the house we're renting is being moved from band D to E.
On looking on the VOA site, it seems they have bulk upgraded a whole range of neighbouring houses with effect from 22 July.
Is the only way to appeal this to look through historic deeds and try and find sale prices around 1991?

1991 house prices are not in the public domain. Unless you know of one of these houses being sold by an owner other than the council in 1990 -92 (gives you an idea of prices) looking at deeds will not give you the answer you're looking for.
Phone VOA and ask why bands were increased.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

This should not affect you
Upward movements are only effective from the date of the next occupancy.
Would be in the LL's interest to check though.0 -
Not wanting to thread jack here, but could someone advise if there's a time limit to what Tim said about next buyer? We have a new build and have received a letter from voa that they are looking to reband, ten months after purchase?

Not quite.
If an individual house has been improved, then the banding change would come into effect next time as you have stated. However, the OP stated that the whole area has been upgraded.
This would suggest that there has been an investigation into one or more properties in the area that has found that they have been incorrectly banded. As lincroft said, the best way forward is to contact the VOA to find out why.
Lincroft can confirm this, but I think this will also trigger a right to challenge this through the Valuation Tribunal Service due to the change, and that there will be a six month window under which those whose banding has changed can do so. This will be the case irrespective of period for which the people have been in the house. Correct, the occupiers have 6 months from the date the VOA served the notice of increase. Good idea to suggest the neighbours get together, sometimes several appeals from the same street favourably influences the VTIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
