If you just want a chuck about cheap tablet you can get em on amazon for around £35-£40 I did order a few myself however they do take a few weeks to arrive from Amazon, if you look for the A15 ones theres loads on there, for young kids they are pretty decent with loads of free games on the play store.... Of course ur getting what you pay for but the battery and wifi strength is pretty good...

Another vote here for the Nexus 7. I've had it for a year now and while it does lag sometimes, there's no apps that I miss.

Also think it might be a bit more child-friendly with it's smaller size. And it's going to drop in price with the new one out.
