PVC Door won't open, we've removed the cyclinder

Options
I can't open my pvc back door, we've removed the cyclinder and i'm now left with a door that still won't open, and holes where the handle cover and lock should go.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to open the door now.

I know there are rollers and/or bolts there, but i can't work which bit i need to move to make the door open.

Thanks for any help.

can't work out how you got the lock cylinder out with the door closed but if you've removed the lock, can't you just put the handle in place and turn it?
  • We took the lock out following someones advice on using hammers! It worked and didn't damage the door.

We've tried using the handle, it just doesn't work! Getting desparate now on how to open the door, feels like we've got so close to doing it by removing the cyclinder, but just can't manage the last bit.

Any more advice on how to open the door, its still shut fast, with the handles and lock cyclinder removed, guessing the lock rollers are in the shut position, just need help in how to turn them back please.

Is it a euro lock?. If you removed the lock barrel while the door is locked the door will still be locked. Work out what happens when you turn the key and mimic that in the door.

Why did you remove the cylinder if the door is still fully locked ?
Unless you have a replacement lock to hand what are you going to do if you get it open ? You may not be able to source a new lock and have to leave it open all night.

Call a locksmith as they can leave you with an overnight lock or replace while they are there.

There are numerous ways of opening it but experience tells you which way is best when you see the particular doors and lock itself.
You may do more damage than is needed trying ot get it open without the experience.
  • I locked the door the other evening, and the next morning when i tried to unlock it, the handle was looser then normal and the door wouldn't open. I'm not sure if the door was unlocked or unlocked when we took the cyclinder off, as the key wasn't doing anything in the lock when we turned it.

I have another lock to put on in replacement already, i've got matching front and back doors, and when i had a new lock put on the front door last year, i kept the old lock, so i'm planning on using that if i can find out how to get the door open.

If anyone can give me advice on how to open the door, when the cyclinder and handle have been removed it would be much appreciated.

I'm curious to know how you managed to take out the cylinder without removing the holding screw?

I didn't think snapping allowed the whole cylinder to be removed? Just the face to allow access to the internal mechanism.

It sounds like the gearbox in the door has broken, you may need to get a locksmith out because if you are not careful, you will probably cause some damage. Gearboxes fail all the time, most can be replaced but others require the whole multi point lock to be replaced.

Key spinning in the lock is normally a damaged cylinder.
