Broadband cheapest way

At the moment am on a PAYG dongle, on 3, the type you can by a voucher for. It works, but it is not brilliant.
Want the cheapest broadband, but not to the point of having a bad service, rather pay a few bob more.
We have no landline at the moment, and we don't really want one but will go that way if need be.
We also see that broadband seems to be dropping in price, is the because of 4g coming over the horizon, lets face it if is as good as it claims to be who is going to bother with land based broadband.
Will probably go for the cheapest 12 month deal.
We are not heavy users, just browsing, bit of Iplayer, don't download games or films.
If there is a way of being contract free would prefer that, but our present dongle is proving a bit on the slow side, is there such a thing as super dongle, or maybe a better, faster provider than 3.
Cheers

You can't have ADSL or FTTC broadband without a BT-based landline-whcih requires a minimum term contract for line rental.
The only other alternative is VM cable service, if available.
There is no universal 'cheapest', since broadband is exchange-specific. So do an exchange search on www.samknows.com for your available LLU providers. No free lunch, and no free laptop

As said above you'll need a landline to receive broadband.
Broadband is around £5 a month excluding offers (some companies offer half price etc). Line rental can be around £10 a month if you pay for a year up front (price depends on company).
Have a look at http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/packages/#products=sort%3Dmonthly_cost to see some offers. Take note of free installation/activation because you may have to pay up to £50 otherwise.0
