??? Hardware damage = physical damage. From your description it sounds as though the button has been pressed (or repeatedly) with great pressure (causing it to fail). This would be classed as abuse and not covered.

Nope, definitely not. I haven't been heavy handed with it at all. I have had absolutely no reason to apply pressure to the button. As I explained to the man in the repair shop yesterday, there was no warning of it whatsoever. It was working fine and then suddenly the button just wouldn't release. Its not loose, its completely jammed down.

Whatever the reason for it, it is still not something I expect to happen to an expensive piece of equipment after less than 4 months.

The power on/off button collapsed on one of my phones, after almost two years.

The phone had not been repeatedly turned on and off, but maybe pressed on average once a week or less.

It was repaired under warranty, and they also changed the other rubber buttons, for call volume and taking photos

    Hi redux :)

What phone company were you with? Was it them or the phone manufacturers that agreed to repair it under warranty?

I took it to the local O2 shop, and they sent it to Nokia. The shop phoned me up to collect it a few days later.
  • Sorry for the thread hijack but you guys seem to know what you're talking about.

I recently dropped my S3 onto concrete and somehow the Gorilla Glass has remained intact, but the LCD beneath has cracked in the bottom left. I've taken it to an independant retailer and was quoted £160 which unfortunately seems to be the norm.

Would I be best to take the device to Samsung or Vodafone, the provider, for a paid repair?

You'd be best taking it to Vodafone or Samsung as taking it to an independent retailer will forfeit any remaining warranty on the handset.

    Hi nathanrandomhero,

As long as the work is carried out by an authorised Samsung repairer it's entirely up to you who you'd like to arrange the repair with.

If you'd prefer us to arrange it could you email us with your details via the contact information provided in post 7 above?

    Kind regards,

    Lee
