I loved the headboard and the dining table.
I also liked the headboard, even OH was impressed and he is very hard to please when it comes to furniture!
The show did give some good ideas, and it's certainly the kind of thing I would do if I was just starting out in my own home. Too many youngsters nowadays would just get everything on credit and get into debt to furnish their homes, rather than get second hand. I had a mish mash of other people's cast offs for years before I could get decent furniture, and even now most of our stuff was bought second hand or given to us, it's just a lot nicer than some of the things we had in the past, lol!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Definitely a great message to get out there because you can do it for free or next to nothing.
A decent program entertainment wise but again I was frustrated over the lack of real living problems. There were some lovely pieces brought in from all over the country. I can only source 10 mile radius from my home which would mean little chance of getting those great pieces
Oh how I wish one of the programme makers would do something for us in the real world not focus on highly paid presenters that do it as a lifestyle choice or because it's fashionable.0 -
It's entirely possible to source everything locally but it will take time, probably over the space of a couple of years to do what they achieved instantly in the programme by having a huge stock in a warehouse.
If the programe sparks some interest in reusing and recycling rather than buying everything new and matching and on a credit card then great. We need to inspire people to think outside of the catalogues.
I've been picking up freebies for years, everything in my first flat was either someone else's cast off of a few quid in second hand shop, I scour bootfairs and free cycle for items I need but always make sure I pass on stuff in the same way."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Second-hand shops have become very popular in our town, yesterday I spotted three I haven't been into before! Most are expensive for what they are, they seem to be catching on that people are doing up old cheap furniture and so it's not as cheap as it maybe should be. £30 for a broken mdf bookcase? No thanks. £20 delivery? Catch yourself on. There is one shop styled as an antique shop, which has lots of nice pieces but these of course are too dear to buy as a craft project, even though it's just old, often broken furniture people have probably thrown away!
There is also a little shop that sells painted, restored furniture, and the lady that owns it says she goes round the second-hand shops before they open to the public in the morning to get the best pick of the stuff - not fair lol! Sorry for the rant but I do love cheering up old furniture, but I can't get anything cheap enough to do it on!

That's a real fair point galeygoo and the programme last night will have added to the fashionable idea of upcycling just as much, maybe even more, than the idea of being skint but still trying to make it.0

I enjoyed the programme. I loved the headboard - in fact the whole bedroom I thought was gorgeous. I also liked the tables used as shelves, very unusual. I also liked the bath made into seat although I think if something could have been done about the front edges it would have been better but I love the feet on those sort of baths and liked the red the outside was painted
I am a big fan of secondhand furniture. Most of my furniture is secondhand, some free from places likes freecycle, gumtree etc and some from charity shops, ebay, secondhand shops etc but all bought for very little.
Some items I have stripped and waxed - a lovely oak dining table which I paid £10 for, some I have repainted - a sideboard, a writing bureau. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I wish that there had been some more practical info, like how to attach the door headboard to the bed!
Also could have done without getting everything valued at the end, what used to be free or junk shop furniture is already being priced as vintage.
Obviously not that easy to get hold of really nice free stuff or they wouldn't be paying who knows how much in transportation costs to kit out one sparsely stocked shop from all over the uk!0 -
I didn't know she had a new series starting. What's it called?0

Yes, I would like to have seen more actual info on how to do some of the things and I agree that bit with the valuation of the items I thought was pointless.
I guess they had little time in which to stock the shop so that is why they went all over the country. The items I have in my home I have collected over time. Some nice items do come up but if they are on places like freecycle obviously you have to be lucky to get them. I bet it's going to get even harder now!The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0
