I love my Nexus 4 but every time I go to
settings
language & input
Keyboard methods

No matter how many times I un-tick 'google voice typing' it keeps coming back

Help!

My Nexus S has that option ticked. Are you saying your phone types a message when you speak? What exactly is the problem?

I want to disable it, but the ticked box keeps reappearing!

What I mean is, what's the problem with the box being ticked? What does it change?

Sometimes, when typing (can't remember when) on the keyboard comes a microphone rather than a more 'useful' symbol.
It's just irritating that it won't stay switched off! :(

    Use a different keyboard?
  • (Only slightly off topic). Google have released Android 4.3 update for Nexus 4 so expect an OTA update shortly.

Or in a long time, or never depending on your device! (Nexus 4 comes under shortly though).

If I untick voice typing on my N4 (running 4.3 ;)), it stays unticked.

My Nexus 4 and 10 are both still telling me they're up to date on 4.2, grumble!

OTA roll outs aren't fast (incase some nasty bug is found) but it's easy to do it manually.

    Nexus 4 update link: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/data/ota/google_mako/ebc8bad23772b5fd6e2907e48b4c74ba0ed58f21.signed-occam-JWR66V-from-JDQ39.ebc8bad2.zip
    Nexus 10 update link: android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_mantaray/61a7c100c769fdf081116d4544f0ac6cfadd803d.signed-mantaray-JWR66V-from-JDQ39.61a7c100.zip

Save each file to the respective device, then power them off.

Hold vol- and hit power on. Use the volume keys to select recovery mode and hit power to boot to recovery.

You'll find a mostly blank screen, hold power and press vol+ and a menu will appear, use volume to navigate to 'apply update from SD card' and use power to select it. Then browse to the update file, use power to select it and you're good to go.
