EPSON inkjets and compatible cartridges

I have been happily using a CX3600 Epson all in one with 4 colour cartridges over the last 2 years. I have always been able to use cheaper compatible cartridges without problem.
I have now bought a brand new Epson R265 and the time has come to change a cartridge
I put in a compatible light cyan cartridge and get an error message saying its incompatible.
I tried everything but it refuses to take it ans so I cant continue printing.
Does anyone know if there are any tricks to fool it into working?
Its definately the right one as far as size and looks are concerned and its the right "Compatible" for my printer

i would ask the company you bought the compatable from first. I know my dx3850 has chipped cartridges and I have to use a tool to re-set the cartridge, otherwise it comes up with the same issue as yours.
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • could just be a dodgy cartridge.
    its possible.
take it back and ask for another.
we sell them and have had the r265 and d78 ranges of cartridges brought back quite a lot as they're relatively new as far as compatable inks go.
and with Printrite not making epson inks now.

Try North Devon Inks £2.75 each.

Try a resetter and refill with bulk ink from Aktiv Direct.

.. be aware that using compatible carts now invalidates your warranty - epson may refuse to look at a fault if it has compats in it.

I looked at that item and it says specifically not for the R265

I am aware of that but I buy compatible cartridges for as little as £1.60 compared to £7.00 at epson and considering how many cartridges I get through its worth taking that chance.
I paid £62 for the R265 so after 10 cartridges I'd be saving enough to buy the same printer again.

I've lately heard about Epson setting chips so cartridges cant be copied and I question the legality of that. If this is the truth in my case then I saw nothing on the box or in the description when I made the purchase. Such knowledge would have been a decider as to wether or not I made the purpose.
Its as if you purchased a car and then found it would only work on one brand of fuel.

I am truly cheesed off. I bought the printer with someone else's money so I could reproduce a quantity of 24 page booklets for her.
I doubt if pc world or epson would refund me for not wanting it anymore, even though I've only owned it a week and so far only used the original cartridges provided with it.
I have no idea what my rights are in the matter.
I would never have bought it if I knew then what I know now

  • saw this at our suppliers the other day, when we were arguing on which new printer to go far, hope it helps.

Does anyone know if the Epson R360 is affected similarly as it uses the same cartridges?

    Many thanks

I have a new DX5000 Epson and I've had the same problems with cartridge incompatibility. Has anyone found a way round this latest hurdle for buying cheap cartridges? In the arms race between the Epson and the non-branded it seems Epson is now ahead. Please give a heads up if anyone finds compatible cartridges.
  • we sell the pro jet ones at work and havent had any back on the dx4000/5000 range yet
