I'm not 100% on this but i would guess it's so Motability can claim the VAT back.......;)

(as to why the discs all state disabled)

Despite the scheme being widely known as Motability, it's administered by Motability Finance who are a business, not a charity.

Some concessions need the disabled tax disc as well as the blue badge. The Dartford crossing does, and I think some council car parks do. They were definitely talking about it a few years ago.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

That's interesting because the badge was introduced to use in multiple vehicles. Obviously this can't happen in those places - I would have to complain :D But I can see how it helps to reduce misuse.

    (1) don't leave the blue badge in the car when not using it. Thieves can't get it then

    (2) when the blue badge needs to be on display, buy something like this to use:

    Hi all!

My dad has been awarded DLA or whatever it's called now. He is entitled to the higher rate and wants to get a motability car. He asked my to find out what a low emission car ie under 100 CO2 says on its tax disc. Normally it would be exempt and say Nil, but I suspect for this purpose it would read disabled. I don't know why he's worrying, but he read somewhere that criminals target vehicles with a 'disabled' tax disc, and break in with the hope of finding a blue badge. For a quiet(er) life I said I would try and find out.

    Many thanks,

    Natasha

Unless your dad was 65 before the 8th April 2013, he will be re-assessed under the much harsher regime of PIP from October 2015.
The government are intending to reduce the number of Motability cars on the road by changing the distance rule (under DLA - 50 metres) to 20 metres under PIP.

Given that it is only just over 2 years away, has your dad not considered buying his own car with his DLA? At least he will have a car if he loses his PIP claim.

Its just the standard thing. The tax discs either say PC, DC or Disabled depending in the class. As from Monday the DVLA print their own discs once we've hit the button to tax.

Lizzie, is there anywhere I could get a hold of confirmation of this, in writing, if possible?

Don't worry, it's not that I don't believe you :p it's just that this may have an effect on part of my job, and would be good to have something to quote if need be.

Many thanks for posting that though, really helpful. :)

That's quite bad for people like me who take a couple of different disabled people in the car. It's there primarily for my mother (always has been), but while I'm doing my mother's shopping, I take my daughter shopping. 2 birds with one stone and all that, so use my daughter's badge as mother isn't in the car (she doesn't do shops!)

Although, I have never abused the scheme, but did once put the wrong badge up, some old biddy questioned me about it and I showed them my mum's badge instead of my daughter's :rotfl: Which meant I promptly went into the glove box to change it.
