Phishing email NOT from the CO-OP Watch out!

Hi.
I am not sure if this is the correct section but given that 99% of my online activity recently has been comping on the forum, I thought this was best place for this post.

I just got an email purporting to be from the CO-OP bank telling me to confirm my bank account details or risk my account becoming inactive!!!!!

I have reported it to my email provider as phishing

Please please all do the same if you get one of these scam emails.

I got one of these yesterday and another one today - landed in my spam box. Also got a dodgy one from "BT" yesterday that I have reported.

I got the same email land in my spam. I forwarded the email to the Co-operative Bank so they can decide what action to take next. I'd suggest anyone else does the same:

I also had one of these purporting to be from Nat West Bank. I know it's a scam as I don't even have an account with them :D

I only Googled "hotmail phishing what to do" & got this
( I didn't want to just delete it & I know they never ask for any details !)

    "Windows Live Hotmail

To report to Outlook.com or Windows Live Hotmail a message that tries to trick its users into revealing personal details, user names and passwords, financial or other sensitive information:
    • Open the phishing email you want to report.
    • Click the down arrow next to Junk in the Outlook.com toolbar.
      • In Windows Live Hotmail, click Mark as in the toolbar.
    • Select Phishing scam from the menu that comes up.
You can also report spam that is not phishing."

I've deleted it. Don't like the idea of opening it. (Opening can alert the spammer your email account's live? And relevant to that bank?)

(Took an iPad screen print of it's header)

I had the same email sent twice. Is there any real harm in opening it? I didn't click on any of the links inside, I just looked to see what it said.

Probably as well to curb your curiosity :-)

In Hotmail just right click on the message. Then click "View message source". You can then read the message without opening it.

I get numerous such emails per week & just click the "Phishing Scam" tab.

Can spammers/phishers not get wind that your email is alive and kicking (and you are a co-op bank customer?)

Also are any deviants lurking just by opening an email? (drive by)

By using the "View Message Source" you do not actually open the email.
No one is alerted to the activity on your email account by doing this & it does not expose your system to any risk re Trojans etc.
