quote the law. 2 year warrenties are not uncommon. and if i buy a car i expect to run it for atleast 2 years! thats reasonable.

You're the one making rash generalisations - YOU quote where the law says 2 years!! Thats like you saying that tooth fairies are real but making it my problem to prove they arent!!
You need to read up on the law and understand the difference between a warranty and warranting the condition of the car.
By law, a trader must warrant the condition of the car they sell, usually for a period of up to six months. During that time any "faults" are usually deemed to have been present at the time of sale and it is up to the trader to prove otherwise. Conversely wear and tear is not considered a "fault", so for example if a clutch were to give up at 100,000 miles and three months after a car has been purchased it may be considered reasonable that that is wear and tear.
A *warranty* is something totally different and is not required by law.0 -
