New Oil Boiler

Hi
I need a new oil boiler and have been given 2 quotes. The cheaper quote is to replace my existing oil boiler with an updated version of the same which will be 92% energy efficient. The second option, which is £500 more expensive, is to install a new condenser boiler, which will be 96% energy efficient. Apparently most new homes being built have the new condenser boiler installed as standard.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks

Condensing boilers are required by Building Regs in almost all domestic installs now, so I'm surprised you've got a choice. Is this a non-domestic install?
You've been advised correctly;condensing boilers are more efficient (at least when in condensing mode)..No free lunch, and no free laptop

Condensing should be installed, nothing else will satisfy building regs, unless you can score enough on there points system for non condensing install, but I almost certainly guarantee you can't.0

OP The impression given by your post is the cheaper version will be non-condensing - and that is not correct.
Not only is it mandatory to fit condensing boilers, a non-condensing boiler will not achieve 92% efficiency.
If non-condensing boilers could achieve 92% we wouldn't have had these **** condensing boilers foisted upon us and could happily replace our boilers every 30 years or so!- and expect them to be relatively trouble free in that time!
To a certain extent the 92% or 96% figures are much like car manufacturer's mpg figures- rarely achieved in practice.
To achieve high efficiency the boiler must be in condensing mode and that depends largely how they are used.
P.S. Why do you need a new boiler?0 -
Out of interest, what are the exceptions allowed for domestic installs? No free lunch, and no free laptop
