  • cut the price of existing broadband.
just did this so i thought i'd throw it in.
if you're thinking of switching broadband, and start phoning providers for info, they generally ask for your MAC CODE this code is known by your service provider so you have to phone them to get it. i'm thinkin of switchin to sky so i phoned my current provider wanadoo/orange and asked for it. they, obviously knowing i was thinking of leaving, immediately caved and changed my package from £17.99 with a speed of 1-2meg, to £12.99 8meg!!!!
the nice thing about this is you don't even have to threaren to leave (a move that can backfire) all you do is phone your customer service dept and ask for your MAC CODE. hope someone benefits from this as "its nice to be nice" innit.
  • Only use one laundry tablet in your washing machine unless clothes really soiled.

For busing it between certain towns and cities check out www. megabus.com. Some really good savings to be had here (I paid £5.50 return from glasgow to Dundee). Think it goes as far as London. Anyone can use it, not just students.

We've binned sky and got freeview, (not as many channels but hey? so what?) Save £21 month, Bt Option 2 to Option 1, save £3.95, Paid (our) loan Off early with savings, save £1130.05p in interest!!!!, Write a shopping list for when you do a food shop and use (if possible) scan and pack as it will tell you exactly what you've spent, approx save £75-£80 monthly!! Buy what you can from e-bay, (we saved £7 on an aquarium we wanted), baby bits, anything really. E-Bay usually cheaper if you can be bothered to look. Oh, and use Thomson website to book late holiday deals. Holiday to Corfu 2005 booked in travel agents, £1155.00. Holiday booked June '06 late late deal in similar hotel in same area, £129.00 pp!! £897 saving on holiday cost alone. Will NEVER use Travel Agent again!!! Phew, That's about it!!

Lots of little savings grow into great big ones!!!

As I am retired and on limited income I have now been granted a Pension credit. I also get free Council Tax and I do not have to pay for Car Tax. Recently I was also found to be diabetic and an artritis sufferer and now I get a Disability Living Allowance.

If you are in a similar position then do try to obtain any benenfits that are available to you. Seek help from CAB. They were a great help to me. I will never now be debt free - only if I sell my house. Try remortgaging if you have collateral - a lot cheaper than credit cards.

Do not use these companies who say they can get you debt free and wipe out CCJ's

Start thinking of the true cost of things if you have any debt. If for instance your highest rate debt is a 20% credit card, automatically add 20% in your head to the price of something you are looking to purchase. This can help focus your mind on the real value of the purchase. Many a "bargain" avoided like this.

It took me ages to realise why I was always skint until I realised that things really cost twice as much as they are priced at. Eh??? Well, imagine you fancy buying something that is priced at £40 and you have the necessary £40 in the bank to pay for it. If you buy it you will, naturally, have £0 leftover and you are officially skint. To get back where you were before you bought the item you really need an additional £40. i.e. £40 + £40 = £80!!! That is, to get back where you started from, you really need £80 to buy a £40 item!

Now whenever I find myself wanting to buy something I simply double the asking price of it and then ask myself whether I still think I can afford it. Strangely things don’t seem quite so affordable after that....

It took me years of being in debt to come to this apparently simple realisation :(

Aaaargh - so a deposit for a house will actually cost me twice as much....! Nah, not worth living like that - I like my logic just fine of trying not to even think about it! :D
