Michelle - on this site you're going to need your pounds signs! This is what to do:
    • click on start
    • click on Control Panel
    • click on Date, Time, Language and Regional Options
    • clilck on Regional Options
    • Make sure both drop-down boxes say "United Kingdom", then click on OK
    • that's it £££££!!!

PS - great tips - particularly looking after things (like your shoes) - I know I've got into the habit of wearing things out through neglect then buying new all the time.

Another money saving tip to keep this on topic... Save the money spent on the weekly tv magazine by checking out listings online. I use Bleb.org

It isn't necessary to buy shaving foam/gel to have a smooth face.

When having a shower or bath I find that massaging the face with the hot water is enough to raise the hairs, giving me just as close a shave.

ooh on that subject, use cheap hair conditioner to shave your legs, it leaves them really soft, and is cheaper than shaving foam :)

1.Dilute bleach with water and use in a spray bottle, no need for all those fancy overpriced items in the supermarkets, and you can use it in every room and most surfaces.

2.dry your clothes on a clothes horse overnight instead of the tumble dryer

3.add a few drops of essencial oil in a spray bottle with water to make clothes smell fresh when ironing or on your sheets while in the airing cupboard.

4.mix bi-carb and crushed pot-pourri and sprinkle onto your carpets leave overnight and vacuum the next day.

  • I made some of my own cleaners yesterday.

I had a load of empty spray containers. I just put in some washing liquid, some
fragerence oil (33p each) and topped up with water. They smell lovely, and ideal just for giving the place a wipe round.
And less harmfull than chemical sprays.
I'm not going to buy these shop made cleaners again!

Hi, this is my first time on MSE forum, been reading all your good ideas for a while but decided to take the plunge and join in. Sorry for going on. I buy Netto baked beans and put a little knob of butter in the pan as they're warming through, better than the more expensive ones.

When you go to the cinema, make your own microwave popcorn at home and sneak it in inside a carrier bag so it looks like youve just been shopping. Buy any drinks coke or bottled water at the supermarket beforehand.

This might work for some people:

I catch the tram to work/town a few days a week. But I don't use it often enough to save money by buying a season ticket. I have a tram stop right outside my door, but I found out that the next stop towards town is the start of the next fare stage, so instead of costing me £1 for the ticket, if I walk to the next stop (only a few minutes and a nice walk when the sun's out) it only costs me 80p. This works in reverse on my way home, and sometimes at the other end of my journey I can save another 20p by getting off a stop early.

I've started using the Aqua balls in my washing machine, they cost around £15 for 2 and last around 1000 washes each.
Use 2 for big load or very dirty, doesn't matter if they end up in dryer and
    you don't need fabric conditioner
Clothes come out clean and very soft but unperfumed.
