Yes, of course - it always has been easier to get a job if you have a job already.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

At last someone says that :)

Hays wont put you forward for a job if you have been out of work 8 weeks or more.

I think it depends on the firm - many only want young workers, but others are ok with older people.

And, of course, experience and attitude plays a huge part.

    Lin :)

And many only want older workers - more reliable, no maternity/ parental leave, better work ethic etc.

The attitude of claiming a course or action is pointless despite failing to find work long term suggests it's the job seeker that's pointless in terms of what they're achieving.
a person failing to find work has no relevance to whether a course they do is pointless or not. oh and refering to a person as being pointless just shows you up for what you are and confirms your intentions here.

The attitude of not being able to understand why they are unable to find work without resorting to blaming systems, policies, processes and procedures yet never considering the problem may lie with the applicant, their actions, their CV and their whole attitude to finding work.
you are assuming alot which isnt there. it was simply stated that doing a very basic course is pointless because you need alot more than that to get a job. they used to provide some decent courses and even then it was tough to get a job based on that alone. now its all dumbed down. the purpose of the courses that exist now are to make it look like they are doing something and to give taxpayers cash to their buddies.

The attitude that the same "pointless course" serves no useful purpose except enabling a claimant with bad attitude to claim cash from the government.
no the course does not enable a claimant to claim cash. it enables the provider to claim cash.

    Thanks for that.

There'll always be those that continue to make excuses for they types I've referred to and hide them amongst those who have a better attitude and at least come across as making a genuine effort. Hopefully the imminent stricter regime may weed some of these out the system.
the people with the so called better attitude still end up in exactly the same position as those who see it for what it is.

Apply for 5, get no interview, fair enough, ask for feedback and use it to improve.

Apply for another 10, perhaps 20 without an interview I'd be looking what was wrong with applications, CV, content etc.

50+ without interview would be concerning.

500... then there's a real problem with the approach or types of work that is considered or content on CV etc.
the jobcentre worker who was posting here disagrees with you and thinks the poster is doing everything right. someone else even said they would employ them.

Advisor has just told me come April 3 things are coming in.

More frequent visits to the centre
work placement for 6 months 30 hours a week
one other possibly intensive jobsearching at a centre.
my jobcentre is so busy that a person who finished the wp last week cant be fitted in for their return appointment until well into march. so frequent attendance will only be for a very small minority. with the jobsearching centres they will only be able to handle a small amount of people at any one time.
